Tips for the best styling results
Every good hair style begins with a good foundation.
1. Clean and Condition Your Hair:
-
Wash and Condition: Any hairstyle you want to start with clean, conditioned natural hair. Use a gentle shampoo and conditioner to avoid buildup that could affect the wig’s fit.
-
Dry Thoroughly: Ensure your natural hair is completely dry before applying the wig. This helps prevent any moisture from interfering with the wig’s fit or adhesive.
2. Prepare Your Natural Hair:
-
Braid or Tuck: Braid or tuck your natural hair flat against your scalp to create a smooth surface for your wig. This assures a nice flat foundation. Slick back edges with some gel and oil your scalp with a nourishing oil.
-
Use a Wig Cap: Wear a wig cap to keep your natural hair in place, it adds protection to your natural hair. Spray with got2b glued blasting freeze spray or a strong hold hair spray and allow to dry. For thinnest application, if you can stand it. If you know you know, pull cap over face and cut holes for your eyes and ears. I know it may look funny but trust the process sis. You want your cap to appear thin as possible simulating a slick bald head.
3. Adjust the Wig:
-
Fit and Adjust: Place the wig on your head and adjust the straps or hooks inside the wig to ensure a snug, comfortable fit. It should sit securely on your head without being too tight. Last thing you need is a wig that is too tight!
4. Trim the Lace:
-
Cut the Lace: Carefully trim the excess lace along the hairline. Some like to do it before and some prefer to do it after the "first melt". I prefer after personally to me it just hits differently. Cut in a jagged or irregular pattern to mimic a natural hairline. Avoid cutting too close to the hair you want to leave (0.5in-1in) room for the lace glue.
5. Apply Adhesive or Tape (if needed):
-
Choose Adhesive: If you prefer a more secure hold, use lace glue, tape, or a wig grip band. Apply adhesive or tape along your hairline or use the grip band to secure the lace.
-
Apply Adhesive Carefully: If using adhesive, apply 1-3 thin layers along your hairline using a popsicle stick or rat tail comb, let it turn clear. Next press the lace into place. Be careful not to apply too much glue it can cause messiness and look tacky. Try to lay they lace right where you put the glue.
-
6. Blend the Hairline:
-
Match Your Skin Tone: Use a foundation, concealer and or make-up powder that matches your skin tone to blend the lace with your natural complexion. Apply it to the lace and hairline for a seamless look. Before applying the make-up try spraying some got2b glued blasting freeze spray on the inside of the wig on the lace. Allow lace to dry before applying make-up.
7. Style the Wig:
-
Create a Part: Decide on the parting style (middle, side, or no part) and adjust the wig accordingly.
-
Use Heat Tools: If your wig is heat-resistant, use a wax stick, curling iron, flat iron or hot comb to style the wig. Always start with a lower heat setting and test a small section first if hair is synthetic or synthetic blend.
8. Secure the Wig:
-
Check Fit: Ensure the wig is securely in place. Adjust as necessary to avoid any gaps or lifting.
-
Style as Desired: Use hair clips or pins if needed to keep the wig in place while styling.
9. Check for Seamlessness:
-
Inspect the Hairline: Use melting spray. Look in the mirror from different angles to ensure the wig’s hairline looks natural and that there are no visible gaps or lifting.
-
Adjust if Needed: Make any necessary adjustments add glue or make up to improve the natural look. I personally keep my wigs on 5 days - 2 weeks at a time. "Safe range".
10. Regular Maintenance:
-
Keep Clean: Regularly clean and condition your wig as per the manufacturer's instructions to maintain its quality.
-
Store Properly: When not in use, store your wig on a wig stand or mannequin head to keep its shape and prevent tangling.
By following these steps, you'll prepare your lace front wig for a flawless and natural appearance.
